Invisalign and other brands of invisible braces have become a very popular alternative to traditional metal braces in recent years. You will want to consult with your dentist before making a final decision since there are a few situations in which invisible braces are not recommended. However, in most cases, they are a viable option that offers numerous benefits that outperform metal braces, including:
- Aesthetics: The clear acrylic trays used with invisible braces let your natural teeth show through. This is much more appealing than the sight of metal wires, and in many cases, people will not even realize you are even wearing braces.
- Comfort: Invisible braces work by means of gentle nudges on your teeth that gradually move your teeth into position for the next aligner to be worn. They simply feel better in your mouth, and there are not sharp brackets and wires to cut your cheeks or gums.
- Convenience: Since invisible braces are removable, you can eat and drink foods of your choosing as long as you brush and floss before putting the aligners back on. You can also take the braces off during exercise, sports practice, and other strenuous activities. You should wear them, however, while sleeping and for 20 to 22 hours per day.
- Time-Savings: With invisible braces, you only need to see the dentist on a minimal basis. During the first visit, he will acquire all the information needed to make the full set of aligners. On the next visit, you will pick them up. After that, you will likely only see your dentist once every 6 weeks- and only for a few-minutes-long routine check-up.
